Golf and camping, an unexpectedly perfect combination

A combination that just works

There is something very appealing about the idea. Driving up to a golf course, parking your caravan or motorhome and having the first tee just a few minutes away.

No stress, no transport and no need to plan your day around anything other than your own schedule.

Golf and camping turn out to be a combination that works better than you might expect.

Motorhome pitches at golf courses

More and more golf courses are starting to offer dedicated pitches. Sometimes it is just a few marked spots near the parking area, sometimes a more organised setup with electricity and access to facilities.

What you almost always get is proximity. You are staying right next to the course.

Electricity is often available, and access to showers and toilets is usually provided through the clubhouse or changing rooms. It may not be a traditional campsite experience, but it is more than enough for a comfortable stay.

The price

What makes it even more interesting is the price.

Many golf courses offer overnight stays at a reduced rate if you are playing. Sometimes it is included in the green fee, sometimes it is just a small extra cost.

The result is often a very affordable setup. You get both accommodation and golf at a price that is hard to match elsewhere.

The surroundings

Golf courses are rarely located in dull places. Quite the opposite.

Open landscapes, well maintained grounds and often beautiful views. Lakes, forest edges and wide fairways that change character throughout the day as the light shifts.

Waking up in the middle of that has a certain appeal. It is calm, open and a bit removed from traditional campsites.

The pace

There is also something about the pace.

On a campsite there is often movement. People arriving late, kids playing, cars coming and going.

At a golf course it is usually quieter. Evenings are calm, and mornings start early for those heading out to play.

It is not for everyone. But for many, that is exactly the point.

The practical side

There are still a few things to keep in mind.

Not all golf courses are the same. Some offer full facilities, others keep it simple. It is worth checking in advance what is actually included.

And then there is the equipment.

The golf clubs

For anyone who does not play regularly, it is easy to underestimate how much space golf gear takes.

A bag, maybe a trolley, shoes and a few extras. Suddenly a large part of your storage is gone.

Finding a good system matters. Either a dedicated space in your vehicle or a setup where it is easy to load and unload.

Because once that part works smoothly, the whole combination starts to make sense.

Conclusion

Golf and camping might not be the first pairing that comes to mind. But once you try it, it is hard not to appreciate it.

The simplicity of staying close to the course, playing when it suits you and having everything in one place makes a big difference.

And sometimes that is all you need. A couple of rounds, a quiet evening and a place to wake up that already feels right.
