Campsite of the Month: Bergafjärdens Camping & Havsbad
Campsite of the Month: Bergafjärdens Camping & Havsbad. Some campsites try to impress with endless activities and attractions. Others let nature take centre stage. Bergafjärdens Camping & Havsbad, just south of Sundsvall, belongs firmly in the latter category. Here, the sea, the beach and a relaxed holiday atmosphere are the real stars of the show.

A seaside escape near Sundsvall
One look at the map is enough to understand why Bergafjärden has become such a popular destination. Located only a short drive south of Sundsvall, it still feels like a place where everyday life quickly fades into the background.
The first thing that stands out is the location. The campsite sits right by the sea with direct access to one of the area's best-known sandy beaches. The shoreline is shallow and inviting, making it especially attractive for families with children while also offering plenty of space for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful day by the water.
It is the kind of setting many people associate with a classic Scandinavian summer. Sand between your toes, evening walks along the shoreline and wide-open views across the sea.
A campsite where the sea takes centre stage
Many modern campsites compete with water parks, giant playgrounds and packed activity schedules. Bergafjärden feels more like a traditional coastal campsite where nature itself is the main attraction.
Much of life here revolves around the beach and the sea. For visitors looking to spend their days swimming, walking and relaxing, everything they need is already right outside the campsite.
At the same time, there are activities for those who prefer a little variety. Adventure golf, beach volleyball, walking trails and outdoor recreation opportunities help create a nice balance between activity and relaxation.
It is the kind of combination that works remarkably well. A morning spent exploring can easily be followed by an afternoon at the beach and an evening watching the water.
More than just a place to stay
One thing that often separates memorable campsites from simple overnight stops is the sense of community. Bergafjärden appears to be one of those places.
The restaurant, café and shared gathering areas create natural meeting points where guests can spend time together. Throughout the season, various events and activities add life and energy without dominating the overall experience.
That balance is often what keeps people coming back year after year. There are opportunities to be social when you want them, but also plenty of room to slow down and enjoy the surroundings at your own pace.
A campsite shaped over time
Bergafjärdens Camping & Havsbad has been operated by the same family since the mid-1990s and has gradually evolved over the years.
That kind of organic growth often gives a campsite a stronger sense of identity. Rather than being built all at once, the area develops alongside the needs of its guests.
The result is often a place with more character and a stronger connection to its surroundings.
Close to Sundsvall, far from everyday stress
Visitors who enjoy combining camping with sightseeing will appreciate the proximity to Sundsvall. The city's restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions and historic Stone Town district are all within easy reach.
At the same time, it is easy to imagine many guests choosing to stay put. When the beach is right outside your door, the sea is always within sight and the pace of life slows down, there is often little reason to go anywhere else.
Why Bergafjärden is our Campsite of the Month
Some campsites impress through their size or the number of activities they offer.
Bergafjärden impresses in a different way.
The combination of its seaside setting, long sandy beach, welcoming family atmosphere and proximity to Sundsvall gives it a character all its own. It feels like the kind of place where holidays unfold at a slower pace and where the sea sets the rhythm of the day.
For us, that is more than enough to name Bergafjärdens Camping & Havsbad our Campsite of the Month.
