Motorhome life at Öckerö Harbour

In the middle of the archipelago
There are places on the Swedish west coast where the sea never really disappears from view. Öckerö Harbour feels like one of them.
Here, motorhomes are parked close to piers, boats and harbour life, with seagulls and salty air becoming a natural part of the experience. It is not camping in the traditional sense. It is more about staying in the middle of the harbour and letting the surroundings shape the stay.
Two different atmospheres
Öckerö Harbour offers two separate areas for motorhome pitches and they seem to create quite different experiences.
Pitch area A is located near the fishing harbour and guest marina. There is more movement here, more boats and more activity around the harbour entrance. For anyone who enjoys a lively atmosphere, it probably feels like the natural choice.
Pitch area B is located in a quieter part of the marina. The pace is slower and the closeness to the water feels calmer and more relaxing.
That is very typical of the Swedish west coast in a way. The same place, but completely different moods depending on where you stop.
The practical side
Most things needed for a few days with a motorhome seem to be available on site.
Electricity, fresh water, waste disposal and service facilities make longer stays practical and comfortable. Access to showers and toilets is handled through a service card and laundry facilities are also available.
There is even a swimming pier and a sauna for anyone wanting to make the stay a bit more relaxing.
Life around the harbour
A large part of the experience seems to come from everything around the pitches.
Restaurants, cafés and small local shops are all within walking distance and it does not take long before you fall into that typical archipelago rhythm where you mostly wander around without much of a plan.
Looking at boats. Feeling the wind. Having a coffee. Continuing along the harbour.
And sometimes, that is exactly what people are looking for.
A different kind of camping
Staying in a harbour creates a different feeling compared to traditional campsites. Less focus on activities and large camping areas. More focus on the location and the atmosphere around it.
For many people, that is probably exactly what makes it appealing.
Conclusion
Öckerö Harbour seems to be a motorhome site where the surroundings are the real attraction. The combination of harbour life, sea views and archipelago scenery makes it feel more like part of the west coast experience than simply a place to park.
And sometimes, being close to the sea for a few days is more than enough.
