The High Coast for campers
The High Coast stretches along the coastline of Ångermanland and is one of Sweden’s most unique natural areas. Here you will find high cliffs, deep forests and a rich coastal culture that makes the region a popular destination for camping. It is a place where you can combine relaxation with outdoor activities.
Nature is the main reason many visitors come here. Skuleskogen National Park offers hiking through old forests and up to viewpoints overlooking both the sea and inland landscapes. One of the most well known spots is Slåttdalsskrevan, a deep canyon that creates a striking feature in the terrain.
For a shorter and easier walk, the World Heritage Trail near Hotell Höga Kusten is a good option. It offers views of the High Coast Bridge and includes several information points along the way, making it both accessible and informative.
Skuleberget is another popular destination. You can hike to the top or try the Via Ferrata climbing route for a more challenging experience. From the summit you get wide views across the coastline and surrounding nature.
The archipelago is also an important part of the High Coast. Ulvön is known for its connection to fermented herring but also offers small walking paths, traditional fishing cabins and a calm atmosphere. Trysunda is another island with beaches, historic fishing villages and a wooden chapel from the seventeenth century.
On the mainland there are additional places to explore. Skeppsmalen and Skagsudde offer coastal views combined with local history. These areas include lighthouses, small museums and traditional environments.
In Nätradalen you will find High Coast Art Valley where art and nature meet. Sculptures are placed along the trails and blend into the landscape, creating a different kind of outdoor experience. Nearby you can also visit Mjällom flatbread bakery and learn about local food traditions.
For those traveling by motorhome or caravan the area is easy to explore. Roads are scenic and many locations can be reached directly by car. There are many campsites and motorhome spots available, but during peak season it is a good idea to plan ahead.
The High Coast offers both variety and calm. It is a place where you can hike, explore the archipelago or simply enjoy the view of the sea.
